Yelapa Activities
The beach restaurants supply free comfortable beachfront lounge chairs, tables and beach chairs, umbrellas and undercover dining areas. But, the beach is large and offers many opportunities, if you prefer privacy, there is plenty of space for you to find your own spot to hang out undisturbed.
Hiking and paragliding are also popular. There are reasonably priced scuba diving and picnic tours to remote beaches. You can spend a day on a whale watching, fishing or snorkeling trip, or take a horseback ride into the Sierra Madre foothills.
There are two waterfalls to visit, local artists, and trips “up-river” to enjoy. A 90 minute hike up-river takes you to a beautiful, secluded waterfall where you can enjoy small pools and cascading water. Take along a picnic and enjoy a peaceful, quiet afternoon.
Yelapa has become a destination for experienced (and brave amateur) paragliders who launch themselves from one of two locations high over the beach and, on a good day, spend hours drifting and circling over the bay before landing on the beach.

There is a billiards and sports bar in town where locals watch soccer matches, have a beer, and shoot a few games. It is a fun laid-back place where all are welcomed.
El Manguito restaurant – a short walk from Casa Irene – will put on NFL, NHL, or NBA games for you to watch while you enjoy tempting items from their large menu and a view of Rio Tiuto. The hosts are delightful and the margaritas alone are worth the visit!
There is also an occasional rodeo, pick up softball games, and the “disco” if you enjoy dancing. Ask if there are public events at the hotel or yacht club or if local festivals are taking place during your visit.
GETTING AROUND: There are no cars in Yelapa – and none are needed. The cobblestone and dirt walkways are swept daily, but there can be uneven paths with protruding roots or rocks to be navigated. Bring comfortable shoes and flashlights. ATV taxis are available to the beach or town if preferred.
Wildlife Photography: Be sure to bring your camera! It is good to remember that while you are in Yelapa, you are at the ocean and also on the edge of a jungle. The wildlife includes ocelots, armadillos, lizards, Iguana, land turtles, and deer among others. Most of these animals are nocturnal and have no interest in humans. Many species of butterflies, hummingbirds, parrots, wading birds, pelicans, and dozens of other birds are also prevalent.
The Weather: Yelapa enjoys a sub-tropical pleasant and temperate climate during the dry season (November to May) with temperatures in the 70's to 80's in the day and in the 60's at night. The summer months (June to September) are rainy and hot, with temperatures into the 90's, but you will enjoy the many birds that migrate to the area in the summer, fewer tourists, and the storms - which typically come in the late afternoon and are warm and lovely!
